About the instructors

Zahra

Teaching Afro 


Zahra is  a trained dancer and teacher  from Ghana. Her background in dance  started with training in West African dance classes.  She later branched off into Afro-Caribbean Folklore dance and soca. Since her move to Toronto, she has been training in dancehall and soca with the Unruly gyal Program and has had the opportunity to perform at various events within the GTA as well as teach weekly classes within Downtown Toronto.  Known for her amazing ability to freestyle, her command of the stage when performing as well as her positive high energy when teaching, Zahra is definitely an instructor to learn from.

Ren

Teaching Socalicious


 Ren is of Jamaican and St. Lucian background, her love for Dancehall, Soca and Zouk fused into a dance style that highlights sensual movements and performance tricks with flash and flare sets a part on and off stage.

Committed to sharing her culture, she is active in her communities and is one of the Co-Founders of Les DanceSoeurs, an organization that promotes socio-economic change through the arts. 

From choreographing dance presentations, facilitating dance workshops and performing for Canadian dignitaries such as Michaëlle Jean, Ren has made it her mission to continue studying the art of dance and to share her gifts with the world. 

Janai

Teaching Wickedest Wine


 Dance has always been a passion of Janai’s and over time she has learned that it can be a backbone to many forms of activity. She has competed for about 5 years at the professional level with a variety of dance studios. Her love for dance has allowed her to be a star cheerleader. Within the 5 years of cheerleading she had the opportunity to compete at the All Star Cheerleading Worlds in Florida, which is was an experience that she will never forget. Janai has now joined the UnRuly Gyal performance company where she trains, performs and teaches alongside other talented women. Her love for Caribbean dance can be seen in her unique and diverse way of dancing and performing. She adds a little bit of sassy style and flare that sets apart when she dances and teaches.
